Assets

Empowering Youth

The 40 Developmental Assets are building blocks of healthy development that help young people grow up healthy, caring and responsible. Assets identify a set of skills, experiences, relationships, and behaviors that enable young people to develop into successful and contributing adults. Sterling Township delivers asset rich activities to youth and the Sterling/Rock Falls community. Expanding the use of the asset framework provides young people with an opportunity to acquire Developmental Assets. The more Developmental Assets young people acquire, the better their chances of succeeding in school and becoming happy, healthy, and contributing members of their communities and society. The Center for Youth provides training and workshops to youth and adults in the area on an ongoing basis. The training and

workshops are aligned with the 40 Developmental Assets . The frame work of the developmental assets consist of the 20 Internal and 20 External Assets young people need to grow healthy and develop resistance skills needed to become thriving members of their community, and society as a whole. The framework is structured by 8 categories. In the Internal development areas the categories include: Commitment to Learning; Positive Values; Social Competencies; Positive Identity. In the External development areas the categories include: Support; Empowerment; Boundaries and Expectations; Constructive Use of Time. The Assets of the Month will be displayed on the Center For Youth marquee and utilized in a coordinated effort with area organizations to further promote the practice of using developmental assets in our daily lives. Asset rich events are planned throughout the year to help bring about an awareness of developmental assets in action in our community.
