General Assistance and Emergency Assistance

General   Assistance   in   Sterling   Township   is   a   locally   administered   welfare   program   which provides   monthly   financial   assistance   to   persons   who   are   not   eligible   for   any   other   State   or Federal   assistance   programs,   and   who   do   not   have   adequate   income   or   resources   to   provide for their own basic needs.  Sterling   Township   and   all   townships   in   Illinois   are   statutorily   mandated   by   the   legislature   to levy taxes and administer general assistance for destitute township residents. Emergency    Assistance    is    a    needs    based    program    for    Township    residents.        Emergency Assistance is available to alleviate life threatening circumstances and assist a person in attaining self-sufficiency.

Family Advocacy

The   focus   of   a   family   advocate   is   to   meet   the   needs   of   the   families   and   their   children   in supporting   and   promoting   a   healthy   and   stable   lifestyle.         The   family   advocate   provides services   to   support   and   enhance   a   functioning   lifestyle.      The   guidance   and   support   of   an advocate   hopes   to   boost   the   self-worth   of   those   involved,   whether   it   is   at   home,   work,   or   in the community.

Asset Awareness

The   40   Developmental   Assets   are   building   blocks   of   healthy   development   that   help   young people   grow   up   healthy,   caring   and   responsible.      Assets   identify   a   set   of   skills,   experiences, relationships,    and    behaviors    that    enable    young    people    to    develop    into    successful    and contributing   adults.      The   Assets   Coordinator   at   Sterling   Township   delivers   asset   rich   activities to Giving Power to Adolescents (GPA) youth, and the Sterling/Rock Falls community.
