August 10, 2017 Dear Parents, Students, and Community: I   hope   you   are   well   and   having   a   great   summer   this   year.   I   would   like   to   address   a   few   issues within Sterling Township so you may get the information directly from our organization. I’m   Theodore   Harts,   Sterling   Township   Supervisor.   It   is   very   unfortunate,   we   have   lost   our Director   of   Youth   Services,   and   our   Giving   Power   To   Adolescents   (GPA)   Advisor.   They   are   no longer employed at Sterling Township due to administrative issues. I   am   not   at   liberty   to   discuss   or   disclose   details   of   the   issues,   however,   I   want   to   inform   our students,   parents,   and   community   of   their   absence.   This   also   presents   an   obvious   question   of our position on GPA current membership, without adult leadership in place. Our   first   goal   was   to   evaluate   everything   and   decide   if   GPA   should   continue   in   its   present   form, while   restructuring   to   see   what   would   best   serve   our   youth.   I   feel   strongly   we   need   to   invest   in our   youth   and   support   them   as   they   will   at   some   point   be   supporting   others   in   this,   or   another community   in   the   future.   GPA   was   put   on   a   “Hold”   status   on   July   31st,   2017,   with   no   further meetings   until   we   decide   which   direction   we   will   move   in   and   the   best   way   to   approach   the issues as a Township, and develop a solid plan of action. That    same    week,    we    learned    that    the    former    members    of    GPA,    as    well    as    some    former employees   of   Sterling   Township,   are   reorganizing   and   operating   outside   of   the   Township.   We wish   them   well,   but   the   Township   cannot   be   affiliated   with   this   endeavor.   The   new   Program   at Sterling   Township   Town   Hall,   formerly   called   Center   For   Youth,   will   be   life   skill   teaching   and events   classes,   geared   towards   adults   as   well   as   youth   in   our   community.   Opening   date   to   be announced. Parents   and   the   community   as   a   whole,   are   welcome   to   contact   Sterling   Township   if   there   are further    questions,    however,    please    realize    we    are    limited    in    what    we    can    disclose    about confidential matters. Any    present    operation    of    Giving    Power    To    Adolescents,    (GPA),    is    not    under    the    Township “umbrella”   and   it   is   not   insured   by,   connected   with,   or   endorsed   by   Sterling   Township   or   its Trustees.   Thank   you   for   your   continued   support   of   the   youth   in   our   community   and   Sterling Township. Best Regards, Theodore Harts Sterling Township Supervisor
