General Assistance

General Assistance provides monthly financial assistance for basic needs such as rent, utilities, or food for individuals who do not have adequate income or resources to provide for their own basic needs.

There is an application process to determine eligibility. Applications can be downloaded and printed below or can be picked up from our office at 108 4th Avenue in Sterling. An appointment must be scheduled to review the application documentation. If an individual is eligible for assistance and is currently unemployed or underemployed, he or she will be required to participate in the community work program. The community work program includes a job search and community service hours at a local non-profit. Eligibility for General Assistance is determined every month. Individuals who are not able to work must provide documentation from a doctor.

Emergency Assistance

Emergency Assistance provides for basic needs such as rent, utilities, or food for individuals or families who do not have adequate income to provide for their own basic needs. An individual or family may qualify for Emergency Assistance one time in a twelve-month period. An appointment must be scheduled to review the application documentation. The application packet is the same for General Assistance and Emergency Assistance.
